Soutenu et financé par une institution européenne réputée pour sa neutralité et sa stabilité – le Conseil européen de la recherche (CER) -, le projet Open Jerusalem Days vise à produire une histoire connectée de la citadinité à Jérusalem de 1840 à 1940.
La citadinité n’est pas une notion vague qui plane au-dessus de la ville, elle n’est pas seulement une catégorie discursive. Au contraire, elle se matérialise dans les institutions, les acteurs et les pratiques. Cette histoire est connectée car, au sein d’un archipel documentaire complexe, elle recherche des points de contact qui témoignent des échanges, des interactions et parfois de l’hybridation entre différentes traditions.
Dans le cadre de ce projet, le Centre de recherche français à Jérusalem a travaillé en partenariat avec les antennes de l’Institut français de Jérusalem autour de quatre événements dans chacun des instituts. Cette série d’événements se terminera à l’Institut Romain Gary avec la clôture des Open Jerusalem Days. Cet événement s’articule autour d’une balade urbaine de Mamilla à la porte de Jaffa. Cette balade qui permettra de relier les archives à la transformation des paysages urbains de Jérusalem, toujours en mutation. Après cette balade, nous aurons un débat sur le thème « Patrimoine, entre mémoire et oubli », avec le philosophe Sari Nusseibeh, l’archiviste et historien Yann Potin et l’historien et chercheur Vincent Lemire.
Né en 1949, Sari Nusseibeh est professeur de philosophie, ancien président de l’université Al Quds à Jérusalem.
Yann Potin est historien et archiviste, chargé d’études documentaires aux Archives nationales et membre du projet Open Jerusalem.
Vincent Lemire est historien, chercheur, auteur. Il dirige le Centre de recherche français à Jérusalem.

Supported and funded by a European institution renowned for its neutrality and stability – the European Research Council (ERC) – this Open Jerusalem Days project aims to produce a connected history of citadinity in Jerusalem from 1840 to 1940.
Citadinité is not a vague notion hovering over the city, nor is it merely a discursive category. On the contrary, it is materialized in institutions, actors and practices. This history is connected because, within a complex documentary archipelago, it seeks out points of contact that bear witness to the exchanges, interactions and sometimes hybridization between different traditions.
As part of this project, the CRFJ (French Research Center in Jerusalem)worked in partnership with the branches of the Institute français de Jerusalem to organize 4 events in each of the institutes. This series of events will conclude at the Institute Romain Gary with the closing of Open Jerusalem Days. This event is based around an urban stroll from Mamilla to the Jaffa Gate. This walk will link the archives to the transformation of Jerusalem’s ever-changing urban landscape. After the walk, we’ll be holding a debate on the theme of « Heritage, between memory and oblivion », with philosopher Sari Nusseibeh, archivist and historian Yann Potin and historian and researcher Vincent Lemire.
Sari Nusseibeh (born in 1949) is a Palestinian professor of philosophy, former president of the Al-Quds University in Jerusalem.
Yann Potin is historian and archivist, in charge of documentary studies at the National Archives and member of the Open Jerusalem project.
Vincent Lemire is historian, researcher, author. He is the director of the French Research Center in Jerusalem.
